Barely hours after Giridih police chief Surendra Kumar Jha and SDPO Jit Wahan Orawn asked police officials to pull up their socks, a police official late on Sunday evening was injured in an encounter with criminals in Maheshmarwa village under Gandey police station of the Giridih.
On a tip off Ganday police in-Charge Faiz Ahmad led a team of policemen to arrest gangster Sahadat Ansari at Maheshmarwa riverine area of Giridih district and engaged in encounter with them.
Police had also got information that criminals of neighbouring village Maheshmarwa of the district too had congregated at the place.
The criminals started firing at policemen and a fierce encounter took place between them late on Sunday evening.
A policeman too was slightly injured in the encounter while a criminal too was injured.
Later, senior police officers reached the spot with reinforcement. Six criminals were taken under custody and their interrogation is going on and intensive combing operation is also launched by the policemen in the area, said the SDPO.
