Politics on minor girl rape, murder

Monday, 10 June 2019 | SR | Bhopal

Politics commenced over the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Mandva Basti slums near Nehru Nagar. Both BJP and Congress leaders reached the slums to meet the mourning family.

The body was recovered on Sunday morning and BJP parliamentarian Pragya Singh Thakur reached the slums of the victim and consoled the family members. Within few minutes, Congress leader Digvijay Singh along with his wife Amrita Singh accompanied by Minorities Welfare Minister Arif Aqeel also reached the slums for last rites.

Ironically, when the parents of the girl had reached the Kamala Nagar police station, the police personnel did not take the incident seriously and did not make any efforts to search for the girl, who had disappeared on Saturday night.

Since, it was so serious issue, the visit of MP Pragya Thakur was uncalled for. Later, the police and administration provided security to the victim’s family and two cops remained round the clock at the shanty of the family.

Locals feel that the girl could have been saved, if the police officials took the incident seriously and launched searched for her.

In the past too, there have been instances of lax approach by the police officials in rape cases, but the police force has not learnt any lessons till date.

Surprisingly, when the police officials came to know about the incident that the victim belonged to minority community and the accused was from other community, both IG Yogesh Deshmukh and DIG Irshad Wali remained on toes and remained present at Hamidia hospital premises where autopsy was being conducted.
