Acting on the directions of the Election Commission of India office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Jharkhand has formed State level advertisement certification committee on Thursday.
The committee would examine and certify the campaigning materials coming from the political parties and their candidates ahead of their airing in television channels and cable networks. The committee’s approval would be required for any advertisement before it gets released.
Informing about the development Additional Chief Electoral Officer Manish Ranjan said that the committee would play a significant role in regulating the content of the campaign materials related to electioneering.
The Additional CEO has also been designated as ex-officio chairperson of the advertisement certification committee whereas electoral officer of Ranchi Lok Sabha constituency is one of the members. Deputy Director of the Press Information Bureau SMN Rizvi and Rajesh Ranjan Singh who is project coordinator and social media expert are the other members.
The panel would be certifying TV advertisements of all such political parties whose headquarters are situated in Jharkhand along with of those having their registered office in the State.
