Former IPS seeks BJP ticket in Haryana
Tamil Nadu-born retired Indian Police Service officer V Kamaraja is among the BJP ticket aspirants from the Sirsa (reserved) constituency. Kamaraja, a 1987-batch Haryana-cadre officer had retired as Additional Director General of Police in 2015 after serving the state for around three decades. During his service, he had remained posted in Sirsa, Mahendergarh, Rewari and Rohtak.
Licensed weapons surrendered, cash and liquor seized in Punjab
After the enforcement of model code of conduct in Punjab, till date, 2,33,949 licensed weapons have been surrendered in the state, Chief electoral Officer S Karuna Raju said. Raju said after the code come into force, various enforcement teams have seized valuables worth Rs 64.63 crore in violation of code besides confiscating unaccounted cash till March 18, Monday. Giving details, Raju said that the surveillance teams had seized 62,697 litres of liquor worth Rs two crore. Similarly, the enforcement wings have also recovered 1,530 kg psychotropic substances amounting to Rs 60.93 crore besides confiscating unaccounted cash of Rs 1.70 crore, he added. He revealed that as many as 1,087 highly sensitive places had been identified. “Besides, 1,913 persons have been identified, who can create disturbance,” he said adding that out of these persons, action had already been initiated against 622 while the remaining would also be brought to book.
ECI’s green signal to allotment of liquor vends for 2019-20
The Election Commission of India has accorded its approval to the allotment of liquor vends for 2019-20. Punjab Chief Electoral Officer S Karuna Raju said the draw of lots must be done by the officers only.
ECI approves ADGP Dhoke as Nodal Officer for elections
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved the name of Punjab Police’s Additional Director General of Police RN Dhoke as the nodal officer and Election Cell’s in-charge in connection with 2019 general elections. Punjab Chief Electoral Officer S Karuna Raju said that the orders concerning the appointment of Dhoke have been issued by the ECI and a letter to this effect has been sent to the State Government. Earlier, VK Bhawra was discharging duties as the nodal officer of the Punjab Police for elections.
Control room set up to monitor cash transactions
The Income Tax Department will also monitor the cash transactions during the General Elections to Lok Sabha-2019. For this, a control room and complaint monitoring cell has been setup by the Income Tax Department. Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Dr. Inder Jeet said that the control room setup by the Income Tax Department has 1800-180-4815 as toll free number for Haryana.
Former MP Arvind Sharma conducts roadshow
Three-time former MP Arvind Sharma on Tuesday held a roadshow in Sonipat and Karnal Lok Sabha constituencies of Haryana. Sharma had last week joined the BJP. He is seen as a strong contender for a party ticket from Karnal and Sonipat parliamentary seat. A prominent Brahmin leader, Sharma had earlier won the Sonepat seat in 1996 as an independent candidate and won Karnal seat in 2004 and 2009 on a Congress’ ticket. He had lost to BJP’s Ashwini Kumar Chopra in 2014 general elections. Sharma has already conveyed his interest to contest the general elections to the BJP high command.
BJP to set up control room at Rohtak
Haryana BJP has set up a control room in Rohtak to maintain coordination and conduct election related activities for May 12 Lok Sabha polls in the state. BJP’s co-incharge for Lok Sabha polls in Haryana, Vishwas Sarang on Tuesday conducted a party meeting in Rohtak to chalk out election strategy. Sarang, while talking to the mediapersons said that the party will set up a control room in Rohtak to coordinate all election related activities. He added that we have also appointed incharge of various committees made for election purpose.
