People will give another chance to Modi: HP CM

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday said people have made up their mind that once again the reins of the nation should be handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Thakur said in a statement that in five years, there has been remarkable development in the country. "Efforts in the social and economic upliftment has not only created a new India but the country's prestige has also increased all over the world," he said. Developmental and welfare schemes started during the last five years by the Central government have benefited every section of society, the Chief Minister added.

BJP nominee Dharambir files nomination

Bhiwani: BJP nominee from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha constituency, Dharambir on Thursday filed his nomination papers for the May 12 election in the state. Dharambir was accompanied by Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma and all local BJP MLAs. On the occasion, Dharambir said that there is Modi wave and the party would win the Bhiwani-Mahendargarh seat with huge margin. The opposition may make all out efforts to defeat the BJP, but the public has made up its mind to ensure the return of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, he added. Ram Bilas Sharma claimed that the BJP will win all the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Notably, BJP’s Dharambir Singh, who had quit the Congress before 2014 Lok Sabha polls, had trounced Rao Bahadur Singh of Indian National Lok Dal with a margin of over 1.29 lakh votes in Bhiwani-Mahendragarh parliamentary seat in last general elections. Congress has fielded former MP Shruti Choudhry, daughter of CLP leader Kiran Choudhry from the seat.

ELECTION TO BE REFERENDUM ON MODI’S NON-PERFORMANCE: TEWARI

Nawanshahr: Congress’ senior leader and party candidate from Sri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency Manish Tewari on Thursday said that this general election was a referendum on the non-performance of the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre as also that of the local MP who had simply vanished for last five years. Tewari, addressing a workers meeting organized by the local MLA Angad Singh, said that the last five years of the NDA rule presided over by Narendra Modi had not only seen the erosion of the democratic institutions, but widespread unemployment and decline in the economy. Urging people to give him a chance, he promised that he will serve the people of Sri Anandpur Sahib in much better way than he served the people of Ludhiana for ten years between 2004 (when he first contested elections from there) and 2014.

13 candidates filed nomination papers

Chandigarh: During the ongoing nomination process in Haryana for the 17th Lok Sabha election, 13 candidates have filed 15 nomination papers  on Friday for seven parliamentary seats. Joint chief electoral officer, Inder Jeet said that out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, nomination papers were filed for seven Lok Sabha constituencies. He said that till April 18, 18 candidates have filed 21 nomination papers from seven Lok Sabha seats including Ambala, Kurukshetra, Hisar, Mahendragarh-Bhiwani, Sonipat, Faridabad, Gurgaram, except Karnal, Rohtak and Sirsa. He said that on the first day of the nomination process, that is, on April 16, five candidates from four Lok Sabha constituencies had filed six nomination papers.

‘Chai pe Charcha’ campaign held

Chandigarh: Three programmes under the campaign ‘Chai pe Charcha’ were organized by Chandigarh BJP in the city on Friday. The programmes were organized in Manimajra, Sector 23 and Sector 46. BJP Chandigarh President Sanjay Tandon was present in all the events to interact with the local residents of the area. He said that the country needs a strong and decisive leadership. Congress has maintained the colonies to use them as vote banks, whereas BJP has worked to uplift the people living in these colonies by providing them basic amenities, he said. Asking questions to Congress nominee Pawan Kumar Bansal, Tandon said, “What did Pawan Kumar do for the metro project for Chandigarh in last 20 years when he was an MP from the city and also held a rank of cabinet minister in UPA. What did he do for the development of the city?”

FIELD BIBI KHALRA AS INDEPENDENT: TAKSALIS to KHAIRA

Chandigarh: SAD Taksali president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura on Thursday demanded from Punjab Ekta Party president Sukhpal Singh Khaira to field party candidate from Khadoor Sahib Bibi Paramjeet Kaur Khalra as an independent candidate to attract support of all like-minded people and groups. Brahmpura, who organised a party rally to muster support for Bibi Khalra who is Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA) nominee, said: “Now I strongly appeal to Khaira to stand above the trivial political gains and try to seek support of all like minded parties to ensure her victory. If Bibi is PDA’s nominee, some like minded parties are reluctant to support her,” he said.
