In a suspected case of hit and run, a 22-year-old pregnant woman died while her husband sustained injuries after the bike they were riding was hit from behind by a speeding car in North-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Sunday evening.

The deceased has been identified as, Sugandhi who was five months pregnant when she was mowed down by the speeding car.

According to Vijayanta Arya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North west district, on Sunday evening a complainant was received from Jitender (24) a resident of Khichripur who reported that he along with his wife Sugandhi was travelling from Noida to Nangloi on bike when at about 5.30 pm, while crossing Mukandpur flyover, a white car hit them and ran away.

“He was unable to note down the number of the car as everything happened in a split of seconds. The duo injured was rushed to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital where Sugandhi was declared dead. A case under appropriate sections has been registered at Jahangirpuri police station,” said the DCP.

“Police teams have been formed who are also scanning CCTV footage in the area to identify the accused,” the DCP added.

Jitender works as a Medical representative in Delhi and tied knot with Sugandhi last year. The couple primarily hails from Etah district of Uttar Pradesh.
