Private school gets notice for harassing students for fees

Friday, 23 August 2019 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Taking cognisance of complaint filed by Bhumika Yadav stating that her children are being harassed by the management of a private school located on Mussoorie Road because she was not able to pay the increased school fees on time, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has issued notice to the school seeking answers within 20 days.

The complainant also alleged that the school is depositing some portion of the school fees into the account of a another body and rest of the portion in the school’s account.

SCPCR issued the notice to the private school and their association stating that it has been cited in their bylaws that they will “Accept grant and finance scholarships and free concession to deserving and needy students, in the institution of the society and elsewhere”. However in this case the school did not heed its own bylaws.

The complainant alleged that her two sons were enrolled in the school during the year 2013-14. They were studying in class VIII and VII at the time of Transfer Certificate (TC) from the school, but because the school refused to provide the necessary documents and mark sheets of the children her elder son was not able to get admission anywhere.

Her younger son was admitted in another private school on the condition that the TC document will be provided soon. She also alleged that during the enrolment in the year 2013, the school informed her that there will be a 10 per cent annual hike in the fees but they increased it up to 80 per cent because of which she was unable to afford the amount.

SCPCR State that the fees receipts that were provided by the complainant show that the charitable society that is funding the school is taking school fees from the parents in the name of another private company, which is a matter of investigation. The accused party in this case has been asked to provide explanation before September 10.
