Priyanka blames govt for suicide by poll personnel

Sunday, 14 April 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Congress general secretary and UP east in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra blamed the Yogi Adityanath government for the suicide by a handicapped poll personnel in Banda.

In a tweet on Saturday, Priyanka said that the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state had made the situation such that a ‘divyang’ had to commit suicide.

She further wrote, “The incident of Banda is very sad. The BJP has brought the employees in such a condition that they are forced to commit suicide. The BJP has ditched the contractual workers who are now facing acute financial crisis and UP people will not forgive the BJP for this.”

As per reports, a handicapped BLO (booth level officer) Rajesh Kumar (29), of Palhari in Baberu area of Banda, committed suicide due to excessive work load on Friday. He was a contractual clerk in Education department and had not been paid for the past four months but forced to work for more than 10 hours daily.

Meanwhile, veteran Congress leader Pramod Tewari on Saturday attacked the Prime Minister for ignoring Lord Ram and for showing no respect to martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh.

Greeting people on Ramnavami on Saturday, Tewari said that Narendra Modi, who used Lord Ram to win the last parliamentary election, found no time in his entire five-year tenure to visit Ayodhya for darshan of Ram Lalla.

He further charged that now Modi had forgotten Lord Ram and was trying to play up ‘rashtravad’ (nationalism) to win this election.

“Just like Shri Ram, Modi’s nationalism gimmick is just to fool people. The Prime Minister found no time to visit Jallianwala Bagh Memorial in Amritsar and pay tributes to the martyrs,” Tewari said.

“On the other hand, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi accompanied by senior party leaders paid floral tributes at the memorial inside Jallianwala Bagh on Saturday morning. The contingent observed a two-minute silence to remember the martyrs who were massacred on April 13, 1919,” Tewari pointed out.

Tewari also fired a salvo at the Prime Minister for his secretive relation with Pakistan. “Modi’s hidden pact with the Pakistan Prime Minister stands exposed. First, Modi wrote to Imran Khan to wish him and now the Pak Prime Minister has said that the Kashmir problem can be solved only if Modi returns to power. This points to the relations between Modi and Khan and the Prime Minister is just trying to fool the nation over nationalism and exploiting public sentiments to win election,” Tewari  said.

The Congress leader felt that Modi’s drama had now been exposed before the public and they would throw him out of power in this election.
