Congress general secretary in-charge UP east, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, hinted at contesting bypoll from Amethi parliamentary constituency, in case her brother Rahul Gandhi won from both Amethi and Wayanad (Kerala) and opted to retain the latter seat.
Earlier, Priyanka had shown inclination to contest the parliamentary election against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi but was convinced by brother and party chief Rahul Gandhi that her presence was needed more for campaigning in the vast eastern region of Uttar Pradesh.
Later, Priyanka had said that she had the responsibility of looking after 41 constituencies and could not focus on just one.
“I didn’t pull out but I took advice of senior Congress leaders and my colleagues in Uttar Pradesh before reaching a decision,” she had told newspersons in Amethi.
Meanwhile, on Friday, during an interview to an English daily, Priyanka hinted that she might contest bypoll from Amethi if Congress chief Rahul Gandhi won Lok Sabha elections from there and Wayanad also. Priyanka, however, said that it would depend on which seat Rahul decided to leave.
