With the aim to strengthen the party cadre at the ground level in Uttar Pradesh, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is interacting with district level leaders on regular basis in New Delhi, is likely to visit eastern region of the state by the end of this month.
According to a source in the party, Priyanka will meet party workers in each division of eastern UP and take their feedback and suggestions on picking up prominent and popular faces to lead the district level committees.
With an intention to revamp the party organisation from the roots, Priyanka has been meeting selected workers separately in the national capital since the beginning of July to discuss district-wise strategies.
On Monday, she held one-to-one meeting with half-a-dozen leaders from Lucknow whose names were forwarded for selection of district president of Lucknow unit.
So far she has held similar meetings with leaders of at least two districts of eastern UP. “This exercise will continue for a few more days,” the source said.
The sources said that the party workers who are meeting her in New Delhi are being given forms to fill to record their suggestions.
“Based on workers’ feedback, the Congress leader is taking personal notes,” said a party worker who recently met Priyanka.
The sources also said that Priyanka was set to visit UP in the beginning of this month but due to Sonbhadra and later Unnao rape victim issue, and also decision of selection of new president still pending, she postponed her visit.
Earlier in last month, Priyanka had visited Sonbhadra district to meet the kin of the victims of a firing incident. A high voltage political drama unfolded after she was detained and taken to Mirzapur district where she spent a night with party workers.
Priyanka was appointed Congress general secretary in-charge eastern UP before the recent Lok Sabha elections.
