Protest demonstrations against terrorism and Pakistan along with tribute meetings were held in Dehradun and other parts of the State following the martyrdom of CRPF jawans in the Pulwama terror attack. Apart from the MLAs donating their one month salary towards dependents of the martyrs, the IAS association and police department also took similar steps.
At a condolence meet at the Raj Bhawan, Governor Baby Rani Maurya termed the terror attack cowardly and inhumane. In this moment of grief, the whole nation stands strongly together, she said, adding that the sacrifice will not go in vain.
Vidhan Sabha speaker Prem Chand Agrawal met family members of martyr Mohal Lal Ratudi at their Dehradun residence.
Expressing his grief, he added that the martyrdom will not go in vain.
At the police HQ, the director general of police Anil K Raturi along with officers and staff of the department paid tributes to the martyrs. The department decided to provide financial assistance for the martyrs with 50 per cent of the amount to be given to CRFP HQ and 50 per cent to families of the two martyrs from Uttarakhand.
The IAS association, Uttarakhand, resolved to contribute one day’s salary to the family members of the CRPF martyrs. The Forest Department also held a meet to pay tribute to the martyrs.
The BJP held a condolence meet at its state office where the party’s State vice president Jyoti Gairola said that Pakistan would have to pay a heavy price for such terrorism. The Congress members took out a candle march and paid tribute to martyrs while the Shiv Sena led by its State chief Gaurav Kumar, burnt terrorism in effigy, demanding decisive action against terrorists and enemies of the nation.
The Bajrang Dal also staged a protest Pakistan and terrorism at Clock Tower. Concerned citizens and ex-servicemen also gathered at Gandhi Park to pay tributes to the martyrs on the occasion.
