Pragatisheel Samaj Party - Lohia (PSPL), led by Shivpal Yadav, will not contest the upcoming bypolls to 13 UP Assembly seats. The Election Commission is likely to announce the poll schedule soon.
“The PSPL will not field candidates in the bypolls and instead of wasting resources and energy, we are aiming for the bigger battle of 2022 Assembly elections. We are focusing on expansion and strengthening of the organisation at grass-roots level in all 75 districts,” said Shivpal Yadav.
The PSPL chief said that his party would contest Assembly elections in Haryana and Delhi in alliance with small parties. Elections in Delhi and Haryana are likely to be held in February and October next year, respectively.
Shivpal said: “We are not bothered about electoral politics of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party. We have our own strategy and it’s our conscious decision to stay away from UP bypolls.”
The BSP had earlier announced to contest the Assembly bypolls while state BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh has claimed that the ruling party will win all the seats in the bypolls.
Shivpal said that to win the support of youths, the PSPL would contest student union elections in degree colleges and universities across the state. The PSPL has already announced to contest student union elections in BR Ambedkar University, Agra.
