Hinting at stern action against people involved in the Pulwama attack, Bharatiya Janata Party’s senior leader and Union Minister for Minority Welfare Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the Narendra Modi government would never compromise with the national security.
“The country’s security is always on top of the agenda of the government and it will continue to be so in future,” he said and announced that the Pulwama incident was unacceptable and the perpetrators of this crime would be severely dealt with.
“You all wait and watch, the sponsors and the people giving patronage to these terrorists will not be spared at any cost,” he told reporters here on Sunday, adding that the “cowardly” Pulwama terror attack would be avenged.
Naqvi said that the Modi government during its around 5-year rule had “broken the backbone” of terrorists in other places of the country except Kashmir.
“We have already withdrawn the Most Favoured Country status accorded to Pakistan and you all have to wait to see what other actions the government takes,” he said.
He also supported the decision of the government to withdraw security and other facilities given to the separatists leaders in Kashmir on Sunday.
The security cover of six separatist leaders, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was withdrawn Sunday.
When pointed out that some Congress leaders were saying that intelligence failure led to the Pulwama incident, the BJP leader said,” Congress leaders are competing with each other in giving controversial statements. They should avoid statements which can hurt the people during this crucial situation.”
Naqvi also said that actions had started against the people who were supporting Pakistan and trying to create division in society in the country.
To a question whether the Lok Sabha elections would be postponed in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack, the Union minister said the poll process and the terror strike were separate issues.
To a query about repeal of Article 370, Naqvi said the party always said that Article 370 was not benefiting Kashmir but it was up to the Sankalp Patra committee of the party to decide whether it would again be included in the manifesto for 2019 Lok Sabha election.
