With the arrest of five persons in two separate incidents, Delhi police has busted puncture gang and cash phenk gang active in Delhi Southeast area.
Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police of southeast Delhi said that in first incident, three men were arrested for allegedly stealing bags from the car of an Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA.
The gangs used to rob valuables from cars after puncturing and breaking the window panes of the vehicles, said police.
Gurvayurappan (36), Prasath (26) and P Surender (25), all natives of Trichy in Tamil Nadu, are presently residing Madangir area, he said, adding that with their arrest, nine cases of theft have been solved.
At around 5 pm on Monday, they stole the bags from the car of Hari Shankar Manohar, the MLA from UP’s Hathras while it was parked at a private hospital’s car park in southeast Delhi.
The driver was sitting alone in the vehicle when one of the accused told him that some currency notes were lying on the ground near the car. As the driver got down collecting the money, the bags were stolen, he said. A complaint was filed by the legislator’s personal assistant Rajesh Kumar Singh on Tuesday.
During interrogation the accused told the police that they were working for Murugan and Govindan, who used to bring alcohol addicts and unemployed youngsters from Tamil Nadu to Delhi and trained them to steal bags from vehicles, he added.
Two laptops worth Rs. 1.5 lakh, cash worth Rs. 18,000, foreign currency notes and a country made pistol were recovered from the duo, police said.
In another operation, two member of puncture gang identified as Sahil, 22 Mahesh, 20 were arrested. “During interrogation the accused disclosed that they both used to conduct recee on their motorcycle of target vehicles having a single driver and laptop bag on the seat. Thereafter, accused persons used to punctured the target car to distract the driver and point-out to the driver about the puncture. Once the driver parks and comes out of the car, accused persons swiftly pull out the bag from the car either by breaking the window panes of car or opening the car gate. They used bike to flee from the spot,” said the DCP
