In two separate accidents in the Rourkela SteelPlant (RSP), a young engineer died and a contract labour become critical.
Both the employees of the private firms were engaged in works inside the RSP. The RSP authorities have directed an inquiry into the accidents.
The deceased Chandan Mohapatra (31) was working as a site engineer in one private firm, named as Unistar, in civil engineering department. After completing his assignment, at about 7.30 pm on Tuesday, he had left his work site inside the RSP. At about 7.40 pm, when he was crossing NSPCL road junction area inside RSP premises, he had a collision with a dumper and received critical injuries.
He was rushed to first aid centre of RSP, from where he was shifted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH), where he was admitted in intensive care unit.
He succumbed to his injuries at about 10.10 pm on Tuesday.
Satyananada Tanti (29), who was working as a contract labourer in a private firm named as Poonia Enterprises and engaged in the ore bedding and blending plant of RSP was critically injured on Wednesday morning. He was rushed to the IGH, from where he was shifted to the Aswini Hospital. Sources said Tanti's left leg has to be amputated.
