Commissioner for Persons with Disability Sulochana Das visited Asia’s oldest Leprosy Ashram and Hospital at Gandhipalli in Cuttack on Friday.
District Social Protection Officer Sannyas Kumar Behera accompanied her.
Addressing a meeting, Das stressed to provide quality treatment for leprosy patients and quality education for their children. She also stressed on bringing them to the mainstream of society by cutting social stigma and providing all support to them under the Sahaya Scheme. She advised Behera to work in this regard.
Gandhipalli management committee members brought various problems to the notice of Das.
Das talked to patients during her visit to the hospital. She distributed tricycles among patients. While doctors and employees were absent during her visit, the inmates said their absence is a normal affair in the hospital, informed Indian Hansenians (Leprosy) Association general secretary Duryodhan Sahoo.
