Questions raised again on hostels in Doon

Wednesday, 15 May 2019 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Questions are being raised yet again at the functioning of hostels for students here after a girl of class XII studying in a private school in Mussoorie went missing from the hostel campus on May 9. The case came to light when the parents of the student filed a complaint on Monday. The parents alleged that the school management had informed them four days after their daughter went missing.

The student of class XII reportedly took an outing pass from the hostel and went out on Thursday. The management further stated that the pass was given as the reason mentioned was to meet parents. However, the girl did not return to her parents after which the parents filed a complaint in the police station.

Adding further in this State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Usha Negi said, “The commission works to monitor the departments for ensuring the safety of the children. Earlier, a letter regarding this was given to the state’s chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh, Dehradun district magistrate SA Murugesan and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nivedita Kukreti for making a strong framework for functioning of the private hostels in the district.  We along with the letter have also given the directions on how these private hostels should function. We, however, have not received any report from the officials so far.”
