In a bid to prevent elephants from being run over by trains, the Railways and the State Forest Department have decided to put up rail bar fencing at vulnerable places.

The decision was taken at a coordination meeting between the railway authorities and the Forest Department here.

Also, it was decided that the Forest Department would identify locations for underpasses, which would be constructed by the railways.

The elephant movement control room in Khurda Road Railway office and Sambalpur Railway office would be upgraded by the Forest Department for better coordination, said an official who attended the meeting.

Apart from Forest Department officials, railways Chief Passenger

Transportation Manager Shailendra Kapil and Chief General Engineer Victor Joseph were present in the coordination meeting.
