Hearing on claims and objections over land acquisition for the Katghora-Dongargarh special railway project will be held at 5.00 pm on June 11 at a ground near Sub-Tehsil office, Ganiyari, Bilaspur.

The Government of India under Land Acquisition Act 20-E and Railway Act 1989 section 20-F will hold a hearing on claims and objections of the affected persons.

As per details, the Dongargarh-Katghora railway track will cover a distance of 295 km and the project requires 1794 hectares of land.

Estimated cost of the project is Rs. 5950.47 crore. It will be implemented by a project SPV namely Chhattisgarh Katghora-Dongargarh Railway Limited with equity participation of Ministry of Railways and Government of Chhattisgarh through Chhattisgarh Railway Corporation Ltd (CRCL) and private stakeholders.

Notably, the Chhattisgarh Railway Corporation Ltd is the joint venture company established by the Chhattisgarh government, holding 51 per cent equity, and Railway Ministry, holding 49 per cent equity.

The new railway line would benefit passengers from five districts namely Korba, Bilaspur, Mungeli, Kawardha and Rajnandgaon. A total of 25 new railway stations will also be constructed on the route, including in Katghora, Ratanpur, Mungeli, Kawardha and Khairagarh.

The survey for the rail track project has already been completed.

With opening up of Raigarh District (Raigarh-Mand) to coal mining, it is expected that South Eastern Coalfields Ltd and various end use miners will increase coal mining in Chhattisgarh State from the present 150 MTPA to 250 MTPA in near future. Similarly, in Maharashtra the rail route will increase the connectivity of Chandrapur coal mines and will help for transportation of coal in several power projects within the state.
