Rains play havoc in UP

Rains continued to play havoc in Uttar Pradesh, especially in eastern and central region, claiming 54 lives and leaving several injured in the last 48 hours.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed local administrations to extend all possible help to the victims.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology department predicted similar weather in the state till Sunday.
Officials confirmed on Saturday about six deaths each being reported in Pratapgarh and Rae Bareli, five deaths each in Amethi and Bhadohi, four deaths each in Chandauli, Varanasi, three each in Barabanki, Prayagraj, Sitapur, Unnao Mahoba, two in Ambedkarnagar and one each in Jaunpur, Gorakhpur, Kaushambi, Azamgarh, Sonbhadra, Kanpur, and Ayodhya.
The Chief Minister directed divisional commissioners and district magistrates to take all measures and extend immediate relief to the affected people. The officials have been asked to visit the areas affected by rains and facing flood-like situation.
Yogi Adityanath asked officials to extend monetary help of Rs 4 lakh each to the next kin of deceased and arrange treatment for the injured.
Meanwhile, heavy rains in most parts of eastern and central region crippled normal life and authorities chose to close all schools and colleges till Sunday.
People living in low-lying areas of cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Jaunpur, Ayodhya and adjoining places were the worst hit with rain water entering their houses.
Due to the incessant rains, road, rail and air traffic were also affected.
In Jaunpur, rain water flooded several police stations in the district.
