As the stalemate over doctors' protest in West Bengal enters the seventh day on Monday, doctors of AIIMS Raipur along with the Medical College Hospital and other private hospitals joined the agitation in solidarity with their counterparts in Bengal.
Regional centre of Indian Medical Association also called for withdrawal of non-essential health services on Monday. The doctors under the banner of the IMA also took out a protest rally from Medical College hospital to Rajbhawan.
Doctors were stopped at Ambedkar Chowk. Later they handed over a memorandum to state Governor and District Collector, which was addressed to Prime Minister urging him to bring a strong law for protection of doctors while on duty.
Healthcare facilities in Raipur were affected as doctors at the critically important AIIMS and Medical College Hospitals joined the agitation for a day on Monday.
Several doctors in Raipur decided to boycott work for 24 hours from Monday 6 a.m. 6 a.m. Tuesday to express solidarity with their colleagues in Kolkata who were allegedly attacked by a 200-strong mob on last Monday night. A junior doctor was left with a fractured skull in the attack at the NRS Medical College and Hospital.
