Rajnandgaon to enforce plastic ban

Rajnandgaon district administration has directed officials and village authorities to enforce ban on the use of plastic carry bags in rural areas. 

District collector Jaiprakash Maurya has issued a letter to all the sub divisional officers (revenue) and Janpad Panchayat Chief Executive Officers asking them to spread message of ban among villagers before May 25. Housing and environment department, Government of Chhattisgarh has issued order regarding ban on plastic carry bag, short life PVC, chlorine based plastic, plastic materials used for advertisement and publicity, along with those used to carry food materials. The order has been enforced under Chhattisgarh Panchayat Raj Act section 54 that deals with public health, facilities and security. The villages have been asked to hold ‘Gram Sabha’ and pass a resolution banning the plastic within their limits. During the social meetings, gatherings and religious events also villagers should be asked to refrain from use of plastic, directs collector.
