Ranchi-Dehri intercity express train extended up to Sasaram

Thursday, 17 October 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

With huge rush of passengers on Dehri-on-Sone Ranchi intercity express train, Palamu MP VD Ram has urged the General Manager (GM) East Central Railway Hajipur to assign 14 additional coaches in the express train which was flagged off by him from  Daltonganj railway station on September 15. The MP has cited heavy rush of passengers on this train urging the railway to increase number of coaches from existing 10 coaches to 24. Ram has also demanded one more AC car chair.

Station superintendent of Daltonganj railway station A K Tiwary said, “The Dehri-on-Sone Ranchi intercity express train has been extended up to Sasaram. From October 17 the originating station of this train will be Sasaram.”

Tiwary said “Earlier, the originating station was Dehri-on-Sone. The train used to stand at dock platform. The dock platform has the capacity to accommodate train with ten coaches.” Tiwary said with extension of train up to Sasaram where trains with more than ten coaches can stand.

The train since is inaugural has been witnessing huge rush of passengers as passengers from Daltonganj, Latehar and other stations falling on the route prefers moving on train rather than going for bus services.

The flagging off this train was also interesting with local leaders jumping to gain credit of starting of train, while Palamu MP V D Ram and divisional railway manager Dhanbad  A K Mishra flagged off the train from platform number 3 in Daltonganj on September 15, Chatra BJP MP Sunil Singh flagged off the same train again from Barwadih railway junction and when this train reached Latehar railway station it was welcomed by local BJP leaders.

This train was then dubbed as ‘A Political Train to Ranchi & Dehri-on-Sone’ since it was inaugurated to provide electoral dividends to BJP in the year-end Assembly elections. Common people and passengers have welcomed the starting of train.

If sources are to be believed then this train may get a further extension up to Ara railway station too in near future as the BJP MP from there R K Singh former union home secretary and independent minister in Narendra Modi cabinet is keen to get this train right up to

Ara his parliamentary constituency.

Sources said the train has holed the pocket of bus owners whose bus for Ranchi starts from here between 5 am to 5.45 am as four buses used to ply in this duration out of which 2 buses for Ranchi have been taken off the route following a drastic fall in passengers for Ranchi.

The bus fare for Ranchi is Rs 220 while this train offers the same journey in general compartment at only Rs 80.

This vast difference in fare has drawn more and more passengers to travel by this train.
