Monday, 07 October 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

The mega event of Ravan Dahan will take place on Dusshera- October 8 at Morhabadi Ground, Ranchi from 3 pm onwards. The chief guest for the occasion, Chief Minister Raghubar Das, will torch the demon king Ravana at the ceremony. Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth, Urban Development Minster CP Singh and Ranchi Mayor Asha Lakra will be the special guests. Senior government officials and police officers will also be present. The Ranchi chapter of the Punjabi Hindu Biradari has been organising the event of Ravan Dahan in the City for the last 67 years.

What was started as a small event in 1948 with a 12- feet tall figure of Ravana, has now become one of the most sought after programmes of Dusshera. From 1950 to 1955 the event was held at Bari Park (Town Hall) while the statues were made at a rest camp near Ranchi station.

For the much awaited event this year a 65- feet tall effigy of Ravana, 60- feet and 55- feet tall dummies of Kumbhakarna and Meghanada respectively are being made. A 30- feet by 30- feet replica of the golden Lanka will also be a part of programme. These will be accompanied by cultural performances by Dr Kamal Bose, Professor St Xavier’s College. Bose’s team will include national level performers from Jharkhand like dancer Rupa De along with singers Jyoti Sahu and Chumki Rai who will mesmerize the audience. Ground- based fireworks by Deepak Pariya and his team from West Bengal and ariel fireworks by the Punjabi Hindu Biradari will be the other major attractions. “Mohammad Muslim- the artist from Gaya has been making the effigies for the past 19 years for this event. Keeping in mind the culture of Jharkhand, the cultural performances will be presented by  local artists, which will also give them a platform to showcase  talent.  The fireworks presented will also be different from the past,” said Spokesperson of Punjabi Hindu Biradari, Arun Chawla.Ambulances by Guru Nanak Hospital and the organizing committee will be stationed at venue along with arrangements for drinking water.
