Ready to contest if my party fields me: Patwari

Saturday, 23 March 2019 | PNS | Indore

Wishing to fight against Lok Sbaha speaker Sumitra Mahajan in Indore, Higher Education Minister in Madhya Pradesh Government Jitu Patwari has said that one should not make elderly work at this age and he was ready to contest if his party was willing to field him Indore.

While talking to the media persons during Holi celebrations on Thursday, Patwari said, “It is not our tradition to make Taai (Sumitra Mahajan) work at the age of 78-80. If the party offers me the chance, I am ready to contest from Indore,” he added.

He however clarified no one from his family was planning to contest LS poll.

There was a strong buzz that his wife was planning to take the political plunge by contesting as Congress candidate from Indore, a parliamentary constituency represented by Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan since 1989.

Notably, Congress has been trying hard to find a suitable candidate to take on an ‘invincible’ Taai but to no avail.

There was strong buzz that former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh could make an electoral comeback by fighting against Mahajan from Indore.

Meanwhile Patwari with his remarks too has made things interesting.

Patwari during the media interaction had claimed that Mahajan had grown older and she was required to be kept at home and honoured. She has exhausted and now needs rest, he added claiming the Congress would snatch Indore keys from Mahajan anyhow.

He also clarified that he was not opposing Taai and he was just putting forward the prevailing scenario. “Taai was Indore’s pride but making her work at the age of 78-80 wasn’t in our tradition.”

Patwari the minister for Sports and Youth Welfare celebrated Holi with visually impaired kids and elderly citizens and also took them for a lunch at a five-star hotel in the city.

Though Patwari might have expressed interest in contesting LS poll from Indore but given the fact that Congress government which has only 114 MLAs, two short of majority in MP, could ill-afford to ‘invest’ an MLA into national politics.
