Reconcile, don’t pick up fights: Sheila to Kejriwal

Friday, 15 February 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Political parties in Delhi reacted on the verdict of Supreme Court on the division of powers between the Delhi Government and the Centre represented by Lieutenant Governor.

Notably, in a power tussle Delhi vs Centre, the apex court has cleared that three powers pertaining to appointment of special public prosecutors or law officers, fixing land revenue rate and power to appoint or deal with electricity commission or board will remain with Delhi Government. However, court in its verdict also said that Delhi Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) cannot probe Central Government employees and the Centre has the power to appoint enquiry commission.

Significantly, on the issue of control over service matters involving transfers and posting of officers, SC said that the contentious issue of control over service matters involving transfer and posting of officers of Delhi Government has been referred to a larger Bench by the two judges.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), president Shiela Dikshit said the Congress Government faced problems over governance issues but it never allowed such things to become a talking point and suggested the ruling AAP to reconcile differences instead of resorting to fights with authorities.

Supporting the judgement, Delhi BJP unit president, Manoj Tiwari said that we hope that Chief Minister of Delhi will express his trust in the Constitution and constitutional institutions and respect them.

There should no scope for confusion or conflict and the AAP Government should humbly accept the Supreme Court judgement, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said. “We welcome the Supreme Court decision removing ambiguities in the powers of the Delhi Government. After this verdict there shouldn’t be any scope for confusion or conflict. The Delhi Government should humbly accept it & govern the national Capital as it was being done before they had come to power,” he said on Twitter.
