Relief & rescue ops carried out in flood-hit districts

Relief and rescue operations have been started rapidly by the district administration in flood affected districts of the state. Due to this there has been no loss of life. The Chief Minister again contacted the collectors of the flood-affected districts today and inquired about the flood situation and steps taken for the safety of the people. He directed that people should be protected from floods in every situation and told to assess the loss of crops and other losses at the earliest so that farmers can be compensated on time.

The flood situation in Mandsaur is now completely under control. Commissioner of Ujjain Division Ajit Kumar and IG Rajiv Gupta toured the flood affected areas of Mandsaur districts and met the affected people and inquired about the relief work. The Gandhi Sagar dam has 1.24 lakh cusecs of water and 6.52 lakh cusecs of water is being released from the dam. Presently the dam has 1316.04 feet of water.

The flood affected people are being provided with facilities like lodging, night stay, food and daily clothes at the relief camps. Instructions have been given to submit immediate survey report of those people whose houses have been completely damaged and to give 50 kg of wheat to the families immediately. In view of the relief and rescue operations for the flood affected people, leave of all officer- employees has been canceled and they have been asked to remain present at their place of posting. Health camps have been set up at various places to prevent water-borne diseases where people are being provided basic medicines for first aid. People are being examined and are being advised on what precautions should be taken to prevent diseases like swine flu, dengue and chikungunya.

All Primary Health Centers have been kept open for 24 hours. ASHA, anganwadi workers have been provided with first aid medicines for treatment. Public Health Engineering Department is distributing free chlorine tablets and block-wise teams have been formed to examine the water. Purity of ponds, wells, tubewell water sources is being investigated.

Necessary measures have been taken to protect animals from diseases. Vaccination is being done and all the doctors of the Animal Husbandry Department have been deployed to treat the animals. Separate teams have been formed to treat animals in each block. Survey work has been started to assess the damage caused by excess rainfall. The survey team has started assessing the damage done to crops, houses etc. Commissioner Ujjain division has directed to distribute compensation to the flood affected people within seven days. All sub-divisional officers, tehsildars have been instructed to monitor the survey.

Collector Mandsaur has asked to inspect the anganwadi and School buildings and if found damaged, the schools and anganwadis will be shifted to safer buildings.

Survey work of damaged roads has started. The work of repairing roads will start as soon as the survey is completed. Local residents along with the district administration have also come forward to help the flood affected people.

The villagers of Nahargarh village have made arrangements to stay in a Dharamshala for people whose houses have been completely destroyed. Villagers of Khajuri Chandrawat village have made similar arrangements.
