Archbishop Leo Cornelio said that religious leaders should stay away from politics. He appealed to all the citizens of the country to exercise right to vote to strengthen the democracy. He was replying to a query during a press conference.
He wished the new Government to lead the country towards fear- free environment. The people and the Government should work together to abolish the corruption from grass root, he added.
Talking about today’s younger generation, he said that today’s youths are the future of tomorrow and addiction to drugs is a matter of concern. Today’s youth need proper guidance to take the leadership to solve various issues faced by the country, he added.
Regarding fake news, he said that it is a source of concern as lies are made truth that systematically destroy the fabric of our country. He asked the media world to watch and stop the fake news spreading negativism in the country. While expressing views on the politics of the country, Archbishop said that politicians should exercise restraint in their speech. They should avoid commenting unnecessary remarks on religion and caste.
There have been some cases that have given rise to many controversies.
Besides, Archbishop expressed his concern on mob lynching and asked the people not to take laws into their hands but save the lives of people in order to protect the constitutional right of each individual. He also expressed his concern on road accidents, and crime against women.
He informed that Thursday will be celebrated as Maundy Thursday when the parish priests will wash the feet of 12 poor people to symbolise Jesus who washed the feet of His 12 disciples at the last Supper before His death.
This service will take place tomorrow at 6 pm in all the Churches. On the day of Good Friday, Way of the Cross will be carried out at 3 pm in the Catholic Churches and special Good Friday service will be held in all the Christian Churches.
On the eve of Easter special, Easter Vigil service will be held on Saturday from 10 pm onwards when new water, new fire will be blessed as a symbol of new creation after the resurrection of Jesus. On Sunday, a special Easter prayer service and Holy Mass will be conducted in all the churches.
He further invited all the people to participate ‘Easter Mahotsav—2019’ to be organised by all the Christian denominations on April 21, at BSSS College Auditorium at 6.30 pm.
