The rising temperatures in Ramnagar and surrounding areas are proving inconvenient not only for the people but also for the wild animals and reptiles. With wheat being harvested in farms these days, the increased movement of rodents is attracting snakes looking for a meal.
This and the heat are causing a rise in number of incidents involving snakes straying in to human settlements.
While people naturally fear snakes, especially when they enter the homes of people, many such snakes are being rescued instead of being killed by people.
Save the Snakes and Wildlife Welfare Society head and snake expert Chandrasen Kashyap rescued a number of snakes from rural and urban areas here.
He released these snakes in the jungles of Corbett national park on Sunday.
These snakes included about a dozen non-venomous rat snakes, more than half a dozen venomous cobras and one monitor lizard. On the occasion, he informed the local residents that it is illegal to kill any type of snake.
He asked the people to inform the society in case a snake enters a home anywhere at any time, so that the snake can be caught and safely released in the jungle away from people.
Various members of this voluntary group were also among those present on the occasion.
