In view of prevailing disaster like conditions in some areas of state due to heavy rainfall, the state administration has postponed the schedule of the Panchayat elections. In an order the secretary in-charge of Panchayati Raj, Ranjit Sinha said that the director Panchayati Raj had informed that the process of publication of interim reservation of Panchayats in Uttarkashi district has got affected due to the natural disaster triggered by cloud burst in Arakot area of Mori Tehsil. After the cloud burst all the district level officers are engaged in relief and rescue operations. Incidentally it is for the second time that the process of reservation of the Panchayats has been postponed. On August 17, the department has postponed the process till August 20.
As per the revised programme, the interim publications of reservations would be done August 22. On these proposals, the objections can be placed on 24 and 26 August. On August 27 and 28 these objections would be disposed of by respective district magistrates. Final publication of reservation proposals would be done on August 29 and these proposals would be sent to directorate on August 30. The proposals of reservations would be sent to state election commission on August 31. More than 65000 Panchayat representatives in 12 districts of Uttarakhand would be elected in three tier Panchayati Raj system.
The tenure of Panchayats in all the districts of Uttarakhand barring Haridwar ended in July this year after which the state government has appointed administrators in the Panchayats.
