Restaurant manager shot at in Karol Bagh

People in the national Capital are on short fuse and it was amply manifested when a 20 year old youth working as a restaurant manager was allegedly shot at by an acquaintance following an altercation between them in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area, police said on Sunday.

The victim identified as Akash  lives with his family in Pitampura area of North west Delhi. The incident took place on Saturday night when Akash was working at the restaurant and suddenly, one Kunal who was known to him came there. They had a fight over some issue after which Kunal took out a pistol and fired at him, a senior police officer said. Kunal, who is also in his early 20’s stays with his family in the same locality in Pitampura where the victim resides, he added.

However, none of the other employees of the restaurant or the customer were injured, he said. The accused-Kunal immediately fled from the spot with the pistol used for firing at the victim, he added.

The victim was rushed to  BLK hospital from where he was later referred to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where is being treated and is stated to be out of danger, the officer said. Akash sustained a bullet injury on his stomach, he said.

Confirming the incident, Mandeep Singh Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

The exact cause behind the alleged attempt of killing will be ascertained only after the accused is nabbed, the officer said.

The officer added that though the victim is out of danger, he is not been able to give details of about the exact sequence of event or cause of fight that led to firing.

Investigations are also underway to ascertain if it was a fight that led to firing or if it was “planned”, police said, adding they are also looking for CCTV footage available if any to ascertain the sequence of event.
