Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision to fix a date for ending arguments on the vexed Ayodhya title suite, UP Shia Central Waqf Board (UPSCWB) chairman Waseem Rizvi said that the court’s order had dealt a severe blow to people who were against an amicable settlement to the dispute.
Maintaining that there was still a way for an amicable out-of-court settlement to the dispute, Rizvi said that the apex court’s order had given the country a chance to celebrate in November but some people were frustrated.
The reaction of the Shia leader came after the apex Court on Wednesday said that arguments on Ayodhya issue be completed by October 18 so that the verdict could be given in a month’s time. The five-judge bench is headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, who will retire on November 17, 2019.
Rizvi said, “A solution could immediately be reached if the disputed land was handed over to Hindus for construction of Ram temple.
There is evidence that the Babri mosque was constructed after demolishing temples by the commander of Mughal army Mir Baki of Mughal Emperor Babur. Now sticking to the demand for a mosque there is an effort to disturb peace and harmony in the country,” he claimed.
The Shai Waqf Board chairman had proposed a mosque in Lucknow in lieu of Babri mosque in Ayodhya and advocated for early construction of Ram temple at Ram Janmabhoomi.
