The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) held a review meeting with the ward inspection team and nodal officers on dengue and chikungunya in the State Capital on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Municipal Commissioner Manoj Kumar.
In the meeting, the Commissioner reviewed the work for the prevention of vector borne diseases in all the wards. All the supervisors and zonal ward representatives were instructed to check for diseases like dengue and chikungunya in their wards and also create awareness among the residents for its prevention. The officials have also directed to visit their wards on a regular basis to ensure cleanliness and spraying of chemicals.
“Keeping the rainy season in mind the wards representatives and supervisors need to be extra careful. With the outbreak of vector borne diseases, the Municipal Corporation has appointed an officer in each of the 53 wards in the State capital for dengue and chikungunya,” said the Municipal Commissioner.
The officers have been instructed to visit every house covering roughly about 15- 20 houses per day from July 1 and check for any abandoned garages, stagnant water in utensils or broken pots, unused tryes, destroy larvae and also create awareness among the people.
“In all the 53 wards, about 10,000 houses have been covered from July 1 to July 20. During this time, in about 900 houses positive larvae was found which has been successfully destroyed. Since it has not raining too much, the preparations are on in full swing and by the end of monsoon all houses will be covered. This campaign will continue for the next 2- 3 months and will be most intensive when it rains,” he added.
Officials are accompanied by RMC fogging employees during these visits. The Department of Health and Family Welfare along with the civic body representatives have jointly visited about 25 wards. RMC supervisors and nodal officers were trained by the Department of Health and Family Welfare in the last week of June and the house visit was started from July 1.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Girja Sharkar Prasad, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Jyoti Kumar Singh Assistant Public Health Officer Dr Kiran Kumari, city manager Mrityunjay Pandey, Ambuj Kumar Singh along with the ward officers were present for the meeting.
