Even though the police have launched a massive drive against drug trade and nabbed some of the kingpins, the flow of the narcotics to Baleswar district continues unabated.
In a glaring example, Excise Department personnel on Wednesday seized about one kg of brown sugar and arrested a person from the Mill Badi area of Station Bazaar under the Jaleswar police station.The arrestee was identified as Sapan Kumar Pradhan.
Acting on a tipoff, a joint raid was carried out by sleuths of Central Excise Intelligence wing of Cuttack and Jaleswar Excise Department in Jaleswar area. During the search, brown sugar estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore was seized from the possession of the accused.Besides, the cops have also seized a country made gun from the house of Pradhan. Sources said Pradhan was running the drug trade in Mill Badi area for a long time.
