Rs 30L aid for slain poll official’s kin

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs 30 lakh for the family of Sanjukta Digal, a poll official who was shot dead by Maoists on Wednesday. Digal, a Gram Rojgar Sevak and appointed as a polling supervisor, was shot in the head near Barahala village under the Gochhapada police limits in Kandhamal district by Maoists.

The incident took place when the poll official was standing on road after the vehicle, in which she and other election officials were travelling, was parked following a landmine blast by the extremists.

She sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
