Run for Harmony marks Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday attended 'Sadbhavna Daur (run for harmony)' organised in Raipur on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The run was held from Gandhi Chowk to Rajiv Gandhi Chowk, in which a large number of school children, public representatives and prominent citizens participated. Chief Minister flagged off this run at Gandhi Chowk and later he joined the children in the run.

On reaching Rajiv Gandhi Chowk, Chief Minister garlanded late Rajiv Gandhi's picture and paid him courteous tribute. He administered the pledge of peace, harmony, national unity and integrity to school children. The event was organised by Raipur Municipal Corporation.

On the occasion, Urban Development Minister Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Members of Rajya Sabha PL Punia and Chhaya Verma, MLA Satyanarayan Sharma, Mohan Markam, Kuldeep Juneja, Vikas Upadhyay, Mayor Municipal Coporation Raipur Pramod Dubey, Ex-Mayor Kiranmayee Nayak were also present.

Baghel recalled the contribution of late Rajiv Gandhi for his iconic decisions such as panchayati raj, information revolution, voting rights for 18-year-olds, Environment Act etc. He sacrificed his life for unity and integrity of the nation.

On his birth anniversary, special gram sabhas are being organised. Navoday Schools are also the result of his vision. Hence, plantation programme is being organized in Navoday schools in his memory. His statue will be unveiled at village Dugli of Nagri block in Dhamtari district, where he had visited nearly 34 years back.
