In a significant achievement, the Badagada police in Ganjam district on Thursday seized over 3 tonnes of ganja worth Rs 1 crore and arrested four persons in the connection.
The arrestees were identified as Jacob Majhi, Mujesh Gamanga, Sidhu Gamanga and Manual Mandal . All of them are natives of Adaba in Gajapati district and are professional ganja smugglers.
Acting on a tipoff, police personnel led by Badagada PS IIC PK Tripathy intercepted two mini trucks and two cars transporting the contraband, at Akash Nagar on the Badagada–Shergad road in the district, Ganjam SP Brajesh Rai said.
The contraband was being transported from Adaba in Gajapati district to Brahmapur, Rai said.
This was second major haul of cannabis in the district in last ten days.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths had seized around 989 kg of ganja from a truck near the near Brahmapur on September 2.
