Trouble has further mounted for Sundargarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Soumya Mishra after a case has been registered against her for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman.
The IPS officer has been booked under an order of the local Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court following a complaint filed by the victim Priya Dey of Kanika village of the district.
According to the complainant, a police team led by the SP conducted a raid at her residence to nab her husband Uttam Dey in connection with the vandalism of the Kanika beat house on July 3.
“The raid took place while I and my four-year-old daughter were sleeping at house. The police team abused me and threatened to kill my husband.” Priya said, further alleging, “The SP hit me hard in the abdomen, as a result of which I suffered a miscarriage.”
Acting on order of the SDJM court, the case under Sections 427, 341, 506, 457,323, 294, 342, 313, 166, 167, 503 and 504 of IPC was lodged against the SP at the Hemgir police station.
The court further ordered the DIG of Police (Western Range) to inquire into the allegations against the SP and file a report by December 3, 2019.
Earlier, a similar case of physical assault had been registered against the SP following an order of the SDJM Court.
