SAIL's special drive for water conservation

Tuesday, 20 August 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

The month of August 2019 is being observed as ‘Water Conservation Month’ across SAIL. In an awareness program Kajal Das, ED (CET) impressed upon the need to reduce the specific consumption of water per tonne of steel produced from the existing 3.44 m3 per tonne of crude steel by at least 5per cent through adopting new water & energy efficient technologies (viz., Coke Dry Quenching, Dry GCP, etc.).

He also apprised about the various initiatives carried out by CET across SAIL towards being more environment friendly & environment conscious like, the various effluent treatment plant being set up at the various steel plants to reuse the water & hence reduce the intake of make-up water, various Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) projects for the steel plants which are under formulation and various STPs being proposed in townships of Bokaro&Kiriburu-Meghahatuburu Mines.
