Saryu Roy orders hassle free transportation of essential commodities

Food and civil supplies Minister Saryu Roy on Tuesday convened a meeting with the departmental secretary and departmental director and instructed them to ensure that during the tenure of Lok Sabha elections, transportation of rice, wheat, salt, sugar is not affected by any means. The commodities must be distributed through the ration shops in the State.

Till June 2019, the salt, sugar procurement has been done before the adoption of the code of conduct. He asked authorities to ensure distribution of rice and  wheat. He said that the amount of purchase of paddy is satisfactory. Last year till March 31, 16 lakh 33 thousand 416 quintals of paddy was procured. An unprecedented 16 lakh 33 thousand 218 quintals of Paddy have been procured this year, out of which, 86 percent of farmers have been paid Rs 266 crore 17 lakhs at the rate of Rs 1,900 per quintal.

For the timely payment to all the farmers who sell paddy, the Finance Secretary has been asked to order Rs 30 crore rupees to be withdrawn immediately from the treasury.
