Schedule for II stage of Panchayat poll declared

The elections for the coveted posts of District Panchayat presidents in all the districts of the State, barring Haridwar, would be held on November 7. The State Election Commission (SEC) issued notifications for the second stage of the Panchayat elections in 12 districts of the State on Wednesday. For the posts of the President and Vice President of the district Panchayats, the candidates would have to file their nomination papers on November 2 between 11 am and 3 pm. The scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done on the same day.

The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers between 11 am and 3 pm on November 4. The voting, counting of votes and the declaration of the results would be done on the November 7. Similarly, the voting for the posts of the Block Pramukh, senior deputy Pramukhs and junior deputy Pramukhs would be held on November 6. The candidates can submit their nomination papers on November 2 and withdraw them on November 4.

The declaration of the results would be done on the day of voting itself. The members of the block Panchayats would constitute the electorate for elections on the posts of Block Pramukhs, senior deputy Pramukh and junior deputy Pramukhs.

The elections for the posts of Presidents and Vice Presidents of the district Panchayats would be done by the members of the block Panchayats.

With the release of the notifications for these elections, the Model Code of Conduct was also enforced in 12 districts of the State.

The Code of Conduct would continue to be enforced till the end of the election process.

The first stage of Panchayat elections in all the districts of the state barring Haridwar was held in three phases on October 5, 11 and 16.

A good voter turnout of 69.59 per cent in all the three phases showed that the rural voter exhibited enthusiasm to participate in the festival of democracy in the State. 

Out of total electorate of 43,20,412, spreading over 89 blocks and 7,485 village Panchayats, 30,06,378 voters exercised their franchise in these polls which was spread in three phases.
