The State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has asked Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi to look into the case of a minor girl who has complained to the Doiwala police regarding sexual assault. The SCPCR has stated that the case has yet not been filed in Doiwala police station, even after showing enough evidence of the victim’s social media conversations with the accused who is also threatening the victim and her family.
According to the information provided by SCPCR, a 17-year old girl filed a complaint with the commission stating that a man, who used to work with her father at a private college as driver had raped her multiple times and threatened to kill her and her family if she dared to file a complaint.
However, the Doiwala police station in-charge said that the victim’s parents were asked to file a complaint, but they did not want to file any case. He further said that in any case of sexual molestation especially with a minor the police file First Information Report (FIR) immediately as per the existing law.
According to the victim, because of their poor financial condition her parents were worried about how they will manage to pay the fees of the lawyer.
She also claimed that they have not received support from the authorities even when the accused has threatened her and her family on many occasions.
