SDMC takes measures to improve its Swachhch Survekshan rank

With an aim to improve its ranking in the upcoming cleanliness survey ‘Swachh Survekshan’ and to motivate sanitation workers for achieving the desired result, South Delhi MunicipalCorporation (SDMC) initiated a number of measures such as organising free health checkup and awareness camp, access to easy loan facilities, cashless health scheme and skill development.

SDMC Mayor Narendra Chawla said “We have been able to achieve a better ranking i.e. from 202 to 32 in swachh sarvekshan 2018 only because of hard and dedicate work of safai karamcharis.  “Considering their selfless efforts, the SDMC has already released full arrear amount to sanitation employees.  The cashless health scheme will become operational very soon as a few formalities are yet to be completed,” he said.

Chawla said that this mega health checks up and awareness camp has been organized since SDMC remained concerned about the Safai Karamcharis who have been working in difficult conditions. The Mayor said that he was sure that safai the civic body will achieve number one rank in the next Swachh Sarvekshan.

A senior SDMC official said that the civic agency also awarded 104 of these workers for their contribution in outstanding improvement of SDMC’s ranking in Swachh Sarvekshan 2018. Further, it has been decided that the SDMC will organise camps in all its four zones in association with National Safai Karamchari Commission for resolution of their problems of safai karamchari as the corporation is keen to provide them a better atmosphere of working, he said.

The Chairperson Standing Committee Shikha Rai said that the SDMC has been providing topmost priority to swachhta. “The Open Defecation Free tag for SDMC has been one of the remarkable achievements. The efforts will continue till the SDMC get to number one rank in Sarvekshan.

The South Corporation’s ranking in Swachh Survekshan-2018 rose to 32 from last year’s position of 202. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation improved its last year’s position of 279 to 206 while the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) slipped from 196 to 341 in the rankings.
