A second swine flu patient has been detected in the VIMSAR, Burla. A 40-year-old woman of the Bargarh area was admitted to the Chest and TB Ward of the hospital with a complaint of chest pain and cough four days back.

After examination of blood which was sent to Bhubaneswar, the case has been confirmed as swine flu, medical sources said. The patient has now been admitted to a special ICU and care has been taken as the disease will not spread to other patients, Superintendent of the hospital Dr Jayshree Dora said.

With the identification of the swine flu patient, an alert has been sounded in the hospital that blood sample should be taken in case of any suspect case.

Last week, a swine flu patient had been referred from a private hospital of Bargarh to the VIMSAR in a serious condition and died within 24 hours of treatment here.
