Security tightened ahead of Holi in coal belt

Tuesday, 19 March 2019 | PNS | Bokaro

Security has been heightened in Dhanbad and Bokaro districts ahead of Holi and forthcoming Lok Sabha election. The district police are on move to put the cities in foolproof security cover.  Paramilitary troops conducted a flag march in different parts in Dhanbad including Wasseypur, Nayabazar and Bank More on Monday.

Special teams would be deputed to maintain law and order during festival and election, said Mukesh Kumar DSP Dhanbad. The forces will also take up route marches in sensitive areas to instill confidence among the voters, he said.

Aiming to maintain harmony during the festivity peace committee meetings were organised under several police stations across the twin districts. Religious leaders from all communities, volunteers, Senior citizens, the local businessman, eminent citizens, professionals, youngsters have also participated in peace meetings.

“Stress was given on fostering peace and harmony by bringing people together to fight anti-social elements during the meet,” said Kumar.

Deputy Commissioner Bokaro Dr. Shailesh Kumar Chourasia sought for the cooperation of all communities in ensuring peaceful conduct of Hoil in the district.

He convened a meeting with the police officials and representatives of different religions of the city to seek their suggestions and support for the festival.

In view to ensuring peace and communal amity during Holi, the district administration has made elaborate security arrangements. The leave of all officials has been canceled till March 22, said DC.

Cops in civil clothes have also been deployed to keep a watch on miscreants. Regular patrolling will be done at vulnerable locations on the festive day, said P Murugan, SP Bokaro.

Police have geared up to nab public tipplers. Drinking in public is a nuisance with a serious potential to result in brawls and quarrels, said the SP adding “This also affects the peace and tranquillity of the area and creates problems in maintaining law and order”.

Misuse of social media would not be tolerated. Stringent action would be taken against those who use social media to create unrest in society and disturb communal harmony in the district, said the SP.

“The Social Media Monitoring Cell of the district police are at work, continuously monitoring Facebook and WhatsApp communications,” he said.

Besides sufficient number of police personnel, over 222 magistrates in Dhanbad and over 50 magistrates in Bokaro were deputed on Holi duty. Regular patrolling will be done at vulnerable locations on the festive day, said a police official.
