The East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Tuesday introduced the Segway patrolling system at the Bhubaneswar railway station to enhance the visibility of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and reduce the response time to reach the passengers in distress.
ECoR General Manager Vidya Bhusan, who inaugurated the Segway facility, said, “With the introduction of this system, we aim to intensity patrolling at the station. Subsequently, it will also be introduced in the Puri and Cuttack railway stations.”
“The battery-operated and eco-friendly Segway system will help the RPF personnel move from one place to another during their patrolling duty at the station in less time and also help in crowd control,” an ECoR release stated.
The new facility would also help the RPF personnel ensure safety of passengers and protection of railway property as it would increase their mobility. Apart from being helpful in ensuring more visible policing, the system would help the force deal with theft, chain snatching and other such cases in an effective manner, it added.
