A seminar was held at Amar Jyoti Vidyala and Rehabilitation Center to discuss ways to identify areas where one could make it easier for the differently-abled people to access various services.
The seminar was organized under the ages of the District Administration and the initiative of District Collector Anurag Choudahry. Participants who took part in the seminar and expressed their views include Chief Executive Officer of District Panchyat Shivam Varma, Additional Director of the Department of Social Justice Rajiv Singh, Principal of Amar Jyoti Vidyala and Rehabilitation Center Dr Rita Sharma and Coordinator Pooja Tygi, among others. Experts from the Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, New Delhi Anant and Kamal gave a presentation about ways to make the environment, especially the buildings safer for the differently-abled persons. The presentation highlighted the need to upgrade all that is related to disabled persons and their facilities. They also said that while making ramps one must take into consideration the requirements and limitations of the mentally challenged persons also.
The presentation also gave details about the various challenges faced by senior citizens and pregnant women and said that environment and buildings must be designed in such a way that they will be easily accessible to all. One of the speakers said that people with disabilities should be able to safely enter the buildings and be able to safely use all the facilities including lifts and toilets. He also opined that access must be available from various approaches via the main entrance and a secondary entrance.
