Seraikela-Kharsawan police seeks public support to curb crime

Wednesday, 12 June 2019 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Chandan Sinha during a Police-Public meeting at Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Tuesday sought support from public to curb crime rate. SP also released his WhatsApp number (9431706529 ) and asked those present to inform him about any illegal activity taking place. The move is to help the police nail anti-social and criminal elements active in the city.

As per the plans, the police stations in the district will be also holding meetings every month with the members of the citizens in their jurisdictions to seek suggestions from them and also suggest opinions for curbing neighbourhood crimes.

SP said that involving the community and educating them may effectively address the crime. The concept of community policing has also been introduced in many states. In this initiative, community support is sought to help police in crime prevention, giving information about any anti-social or criminal activity in the area and helping police in arrest of proclaimed offenders.

“We will also increase the night vigil and patrolling. Special check points would be installed during late hours in various sectors,” said Sinha.

Issues like consumption of drugs in all betel shops and public as well as vacant places, consumption of Alcohol in all public places and surrounding areas of wine shops, Illegal encroachment of lands by strong builders was also discussed at the meeting.

Notably, of late there has been a spurt in the crime of loot, snatching, eve-teasing and drunk-driving in the district.  The people, especially the women and girls are not safe as the criminals and other miscreants have a free run committing loot and snatching with impunity.
