In a bid to reduce traffic jam from Ratu Road, one of the most jam prone areas of the city, Member of Parliament from Ranchi, Sanjay Seth gave a number of directions to the officials of district administration and police on Saturday.
Seth inspected the area on Saturday to zero in on the reasons of traffic jam and concluded that the daily wage earners lining up in the morning in search of work and vegetable vendors putting up their stalls in the evening leads to major traffic jam during the peak hours.
He said, “Around 1000 labourers assemble on Ratu Road in the mornings waiting for contractors to come and hire them for the day. This leads to a traffic jam in the area.”
To deal with the problem, Seth said that he will be getting a shed constructed for these labourers near State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), so that they can have a proper place to sit while they wait for work and do not crowd on the road.
“The construction will be done using the MP lad funds and it will include place to sit, toilets and drinking water facility. I have already directed the officials of district administration to start making a plan for the same," he said.
Seth said that in the evening, vegetable vendors on the side of the road lead to traffic jams. "We will not be shifting them now but I have directed the officials to mark the area and put up bamboo barricading on the side of the road. The vegetable vendors will be allowed to sit only behind this barricading," he said.
Apart from this, the MP also directed the traffic police department to post at least one constable at every divider cut on the road to ensure proper flow of traffic.
"I will also be conducting meetings with vegetable vendors, auto rickshaw drivers, shopkeepers and other stakeholders soon to discuss ways to reduce traffic jams on this road," he said.
