A day before the state-wide protest by Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) headed by his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav will stage a demonstration here on Thursday.
Akhilesh Yadav has chosen August 9, the August Kranti Day, to flex his party’s muscle.
The PSPL will stage demonstration near Gandhi statue in Hazratganj to press its 21-point charter of demands.
The PSPL has announced to take out a big procession from its party office on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg near secretariat annexe.
It has organised the protest demonstration to draw the attention of the people towards the deteriorating law and order in Uttar Pradesh.
Shivpal Yadav said here on Wednesday that the law and order had collapsed in the state and criminal elements and ‘goondas’ were ruling the roost.
“Incidents like loot, dacoity, chain-snatching and crime against women have become order of the day,” the PSPL president alleged.
Shivpal Yadav said that if the need arose, he was ready to go to jail to fight the “tyranny” and the “incompetence” of the Yogi Adityanath government.
He said even the state capital was not free from criminals, who struck at will while the police remained mute spectator.
The PSPL chief alleged that contrary to the claims of the Yogi Adityanath government of eliminating organised crime, there was no let up in the crime.
“In Etah district, a woman law officer of the government (assistant prosecution officer) was shot dead on Tuesday and the police were still groping in the dark, while a month back, the president of UP Bar Association was killed on the campus of the district and sessions court of Agra,” he said.
The PSPL president demanded that petrol, diesel and other petroleum products be brought under the purview of Goods and Services Tax to bring down the prices of essential commodity.
The Samajwadi Party, on the other hand, has given a call for state-wide demonstrations in protest against “deteriorating law and order” situation in UP.
Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chowdhary said here on Wednesday that as per the direction of party president Akhilesh Yadav, the leaders and workers of the party would stage demonstrations at all the 75 district headquarters of UP with a 25-point charter of demands.
He said all leaders of the party, including MLAs, MPs and leaders of frontal organisation of the SP, would participate in the day-long dharna and submit memorandum addressed to UP Governor Anandiben Patel, to the district magistrates.
